Deposits that protect your day without scaring clients away
How to set deposit rules that clients accept and no-shows respect.

A no-show on a six-hour service costs you an entire afternoon. Deposits fix that, but only if clients accept them. Here’s how to set rules that feel fair.
Match the deposit to the risk
Short services might not need one. Long or expensive services, like braids, locs, color and extensions, usually should. A common approach is a percentage (say 25%) or a flat amount applied to the total.
Say it plainly, once
“A $65 deposit holds your spot and comes off your total. Cancel 48 hours ahead for a full refund.” Clear rules feel professional, not punitive.
Be consistent
Rules applied to some clients and not others cause more conflict than the rules themselves. Write them down and apply them every time.
Make waiving easy
Emergencies happen. Keep the option to waive a deposit for a loyal client, as your choice.
